Newsletter - September 2009

Dear Parents,

We would like to welcome everybody back to Hollies after the summer break.  All the children are settling back into routine and the new children are enjoying exploring their new surroundings.  The breakfast and after school clubs are being enjoyed by the children attending and are starting to fill up.

We have now received our OFSTED report and are very pleased with the outcomes.  Copies are available for you to take away and read or you can access the report on the OFSTED website – www.ofsted.gov.uk

Morrison’s supermarket is running a ‘Lets grow’ voucher scheme.  We are now collecting the vouchers, so hopefully will be able to order some gardening equipment for the children to use. We are also collecting Nestle Box Tops for Books.

Thank you for all your support with the Tesco and Sainsbury vouchers earlier this year.  We had lots to ‘spend’ and have now received new equipment for the pre-school and after school children.  This includes a scooter, juggling kit, badminton rackets, skip its.

As many of you are aware the Hollies supports St Lawrence Nursery in Uganda.  During the week beginning 21st September we will be holding a fancy dress week, when the children can come in fancy dress and make a donation to St Lawrence Nursery.  We are hoping to raise £100 to buy resources for the nursery.  On Tuesday 22nd and Friday 25th Gerry Hambridge will be visiting the children to talk about her experiences when visiting the children at St Lawrence nursery.  She will be going over to Uganda in November and will take any gifts, pictures etc from the children at the Hollies.  Information about St Lawrence Nursery can be found on our web site - click here. Parents are welcome to come along to meet Gerry during her visit to Hollies.

The Lollipop lady will be visiting us on Tuesday 6th October at 11am.  If your child does not attend pre-school for this session you are welcome to bring them along to meet her.  All extra children must be accompanied by an adult.

We have arranged for the photographer to visit pre-school on Thursday 15th October in the morning and Monday 19th October in the afternoon.  We will send a letter out with details nearer the time.

Our annual trip to see the pantomime at Buxton Opera house will be on Saturday 19th December.  This year’s pantomime is Dick Whittington.  Booking forms and information will be sent out in the next couple of weeks.

Our new policy of signing children in and out each day seems to be working well – thank you for your co-operation and patience.

May we remind you that the school car park is not available for parents to use during term time as this heightens the risk to children walking through to school and pre-school.  This rule applies for early starts and late finishes as well as the busier times of the day.

Thanks to all of you who used the holiday club during the Summer, we hope your children enjoyed themselves.  We will be running one in the October half-term, 26th to 30th October so if you need to book any day/sessions please email Liz or leave her a note.  Unfortunately we will not be able to provide a Holiday club for school children on the inset day on 2nd November as we will be running as a pre-school.

Unfortunately we will be losing two members of staff this term.  Julia and Gill will be finishing, although they will still be available for cover so hopefully we will still see them regularly.

We have appointed two new members of staff, who will soon be joining the Hollies team.

We will be holding a cleaning morning on Saturday 3rd October to clean the building and equipment.  Please let us know if you are able to come along to help – all help will be much appreciated!!

We look forward to the Autumn term and all it brings (apart from the rain!!)
