At the Hollies we aim to provide a happy, secure, caring and stimulating environment where all children are able to develop their full potential socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically. We believe all our children should have equal access to success, praise and recognition for achievement.
Therefore through our planning for the foundation stage we aim to provide to the best of our ability for any special additional need that may arise. We aim to meet the individual needs of all children. After consultation with parents and the staff involved any changes for access will be met and the settling in of the child will be flexible. Our staff policy for children at the moment stands at 1:1 support for two sessions per week but this is under review at the present time. We have regard for the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice on Identification and assessment of special needs.
A key worker system is in place at the Hollies which enables staff to get to know the children. It also enables us to monitor the individual child’s needs by assessing and keeping records of their progress; this would be the way any additional needs may be highlighted.
We have A Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) who at the present time is Bridget. Her role is to work with parents, colleagues, other professionals and children in co-ordinating provision for a child with any additional needs. Also to oversee the implementation of Early years Action and Early Years Action plus where needed members of the Hollies staff have attended courses on the Code of Practice and its implications. They are always ready to access any available training or help from outside agencies in relation to the care needed by individual children. We aim to work in partnership with parents, holding regular meetings with the child and staff involved to discuss the child’s progress and share information and ensure that the child’s and parents ongoing needs are met.
