We now want to support Afuwa, previously the Head Teacher of Maria's Care Nursery, as she works hard to build up a new nursery in the village, the St. Lawrence Nursery & Day Care School, offering our support in friendship, guidance and through fund raising, the occasional provision of educational materials.
The photo (left) shows Afuwa and Gerry beside the board advertising her nursery in Jan'08 with Florence a student they are sponsoring through 'Uni' in Uganda. |
Afuwa has a Diploma in Nursery Teaching along with the valuable experience she gained from the Maria's Care Nursery and works alongside other staff to provide a safe and stimulating environment for the children in her care.

The Mission Statement of St. Lawrence Nursery is to "Educate and care for children of all tribes, beliefs and languages, social and religious backgrounds in the name of God".
On the left some children, Lawrence, Afuwa, and Isabirye (Headteacher) pose for a photo with one of the School Sign post planted on Jinja Road. |
Over the past five years we have exchanged letters and photos between the staff as well as paintings and collages created by the children and hope to improve the links with our friends in Kamuli, Uganda even more in the future.

Through Gerry's regular visits to Uganda we will get first-hand reports on the progress
St. Lawrence Nursery is making and while she is in Uganda she will spend time working at the nursery and will also be able to give Afuwa the benefit of her own 25 years experience in pre-school education.

The Hollies is supporting St Lawrence Nursery in Uganda. We have a fundraiser each year. Last year the money we raised was used to buy books for the nursery.
