St. Lawrence Nursery in Uganda Photos - Page 2

The Hollies Pre-School has supported Afuwa Nangobi and the Maria's Care Nursery in Kamuli since Gerry Hambridge got involved in charity work in Uganda in 2002 after she retired from her position as Supervisor of the Hollies after many years.

As a result Gerry has been instrumental in developing a special relationship between the Hollies and the nursery children in Uganda exchanging drawings, gifts and messages.

Even though the Hollies have had an enormous challenge raising money for their own needs they have always helped their friends in Uganda too.

Over the years the Hollies have refurbished a building used for a nursery, sent out gifts of clothes, books and educational materials and given the opportunity for many children to have a once in a lifetime day trip to and on Lake Victoria and the River Nile!

Here are a small selection of photos taken, mostly by Gerry, of the many memories the children of Uganda have shared with the Hollies.
Children wearing Welcome Madam Gerry and Long Live Hollies Pre-School hats
When I arrived at St Lawrence the children were wearing "Welcome Madam Gerry" and "Long Live Hollies Pre-School" hats and the children sang lots of lively songs to greet me.

DEBBIE YOU ARE BOOOTIFOOOL!" This was Afuwa euphofic comment when I handed her the letter and photos from the Hollies!
I spent some of the money donated by the Hollies and other friends on this 'hand-washing facility' as it was the one thing that the Schools Inspector, who was at the meeting, had demanded they have.

It cost the equivalent of £15 and means the children can was their hands much more easily now.

Afuwa and Lawrence show books and educational materials
The support that the Hollies Pre-School have given the school was mentioned many times during a meeting and Afuwa and Lawrence showed the parents and officials all the books and other educational materials that both the Hollies and others have helped to purchase.
We walked to the carpenter to view the bookcase to hold all the new books donated by Hollies Pre-School - I had held baby Abraham the whole time! My arms ached but I was proud to carry him and wanted to make the most of it before I left for the UK.

Once finished it was a good size and had doors to keep the books clean of dust when not in use.

This is the completed bookcase, all made of local wood by the carpenter in Kamuli - very posh - no sign of MDF here!
